Música para un Antiguo Gobernante (Music for an Ancient Ruler) is inspired by musical traditions of the Peruvian Andes, where large civilizations and powerful governments started to flourish several thousand years ago. My work imagines these ancient scenarios through the lens of contemporary Andean musical practice.
The first movement is inspired by the intensely syncopated panpipe music that is widely practiced today in the Peruvian South.
Movements:
I. Aymoray (Song of Harvest)
II. Harawi (Song of Love)
III. Haylli (Song of Triumph)
